    Spring in Darjeeling

It´s harvest time at last. The tea pickers from Happy Valley strap their baskets to their head and with a happy song on their lips, meanders down to the tea bushes that have been selected for the first harvest of the year. The spring air is still cool and the tea pickers' nimble fingers make light of the work. And whilst the basket slowly fill up, everyone from the farm manager, through the broker in Calcutta to our tea testers are on tenterhooks while they wait to discover whether this year´s crop is again of the highest quality.

    Green tea is too bitter?

"I don´t care if it´s healthy, I just don´t like the bitter taste!“ - If this sounds like you speaking, then we have some good news for you! Simply use just one small pinch of green tea per cup and leave hot water to cool somewhat before pouring over the tea. Exact preparation instructions can be found on every packet of Venalicia Tea, so now you should have no excuse not to actually enjoy a cup of green tea, rather than forcing it down for health reasons!

    Did you know...

That the primary difference between black and green tea comes from the process of fermentation? Having been harvested, both types of tea are laid out on large table to wilt. Following this, the wilted green tea leaves are carefully dried, whereas black tea leaves undergo an additional process. Large rollers are used to breakdown the leaves´ cells, in order to release the sap and cause it to ferment (oxidize). Once the strictly controlled fermentation process has reached a certain stage, the process is interrupted and the tea is quickly dried. Failure to do so would result in the tea being undrinkable.
